* CORBA Architecture Overview
* OMG Formal Documentation Index
Index for the download of the formal CORBA specification documents (usually PDF or PostScript format)
* CORBAservices document
The full contents of the formal CORBAservices document is now available on-line, providing full details of the Naming, Event, Life Cycle, Persistent, Transaction, Concurrency Control, Relationship, Externalization, Query, Licensing, Property, Time, Security, Object Trader and Object Collections Services.
* Component-based Development using CORBA
A paper examining how to build "components" of business-process functionality using CORBA, and how to connect these business process components using the CORBA Trader and CORBA Event services.
* The OMG's New Notification Service
An overview of the new Notification Service recently adopted by the OMG and being adopted as a CORBA platform service.
* Headline: CORBA 3.0 Eases Object Development
Details of the forthcoming CORBA 3.0 standard are starting to appear....
The major highlight is the introduction of a CORBA component model, which specifies a framework for the creation of plug-and-play CORBA objects, and will aid integration with other object-based technologies such as Java and Enterprise Java Beans (EJB).
Also included is the CORBA scripting language specification, which will enable the composition of components using scripts, IIOP (Internet Inter-ORB Protocol) tunnelling through firewalls, and interworking with DCE (Distributed Computing Environment).
* Headline: OMG prepares CORBA Messaging Spec
Object Management Group (OMG) launches the voting process for CORBA Messaging, a specification that for the first time will bring asynchronous messaging to the CORBA environment.
CORBA Messaging is not precisely a CORBA service, but rather an extension to the core specification that brings asynchronous method invocation to CORBA.
* A Survey of Object-Oriented Middleware
A paper by Dr. Wolfgang Emmerich describing a set of requirements for object-oriented middleware. The framework is then applied to compare OMG/CORBA, DCOM and Java/RMI.
* DCOM verses CORBA
A review of distributed computing models by Network Computing Online, including a comparison of Microsoft's Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) against the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) standard.
* CORBA Facilities Architecture Specification
The specification document for the CORBAfacilities Architecture from the OMG. Full text available online.
* OMG IDL Text Files
The OMG has made available the compiled CORBA, CORBAservices, and CORBA Telecoms IDL Text files directly for downloading.
* The OMG's new CORBA Component Model
The OMG's new CORBA Component Model - Its specifications and impact on software development
The Object Management Group (OMG) has recently approved a new server-side component model that challenges the Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS)/COM+ and Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) models. Paul Harmon from IBM developerWorks talks about its capabilities, opportunities for wide acceptance, and the responses it elicits from Microsoft and Sun.
* OMG Specification Catalog
This page provides a catalog of OMG (Object Management Group) specifications.
